I was trying to pick one or two but I liked so many of them.
1) Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.
This strikes me because how much worth does American culture place on making yourself beautiful? If everything has it’s own beauty, why do we put so much effort into trying to change it?
2) It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.
This one is hard for me, because I like to be able to see marked progress when I’m doing something. I guess I have an all or nothing mindset. But stopping gets me nowhere, where as crawling will bring me forward.
3) Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in getting up every time we do.
Hard but true. It’s so easy to say “Keep getting up” but to continue after repeated failure is extremely difficult
4) If a man takes no thought about what is distant, he will find sorrow near at hand.
This one could mean a few things, I think, but to me it means if you don’t plan for the future you’re screwed.
5) Things that are done, it is needless to speak about…things that are past, it is needless to blame.
Yeah, letting go of the past is tough. I forgive, but I find it really hard to forget when someone wrongs me.
6) What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.
Oddly enough, this is a basic Christian principle. It seems like common sense to me, too, if you don’t want to get hurt, don’t hurt others.
Sorry about waxing philosophical here, but sometimes thought is needed.
