I’ve become obsessed with Jersey Shore.  It’s awful, I know, but I can’t help it!  It’s funnier than any sitcom on tv!  The fact that people act like this in real life is ridiculously amusing.  I think Sammi and Ronnie are my favorites, I especially liked it when she flipped out because Ronnie had an ex’s number in his phone book, then later told him she’d always be there for him.  I think the most sane one there is probably Vinnie, he and Pauly D seem to have pretty level heads.  Angelina is interesting too, I don’t see why you would come back to a place where you know you’re not wanted.  Also, getting drunk and slapping your only friend isn’t the best idea.  Just sayin’.

Usually I post dresses and clothes that I like.  Today, however, I’m posting dresses that I hate.  Actually, dresses that I hate and that are WAY overpriced.

I was checking out Elle.com’s  “Best Summer Dresses” and out of the 20 dresses, I liked two.  The rest were hideous.  Examples:

This one is $150, and one of the cheapest.

You can look like you're wearing sharks teeth for $1225!

$1390 to wear a dress that your blind senile grandmother made.

One of the only ones I liked was this one :

It’s still not going to make it to my favorites list though.

I don’t understand paying that much money for any clothing, besides perhaps a wedding dress.  I didn’t pay more than $100 for my prom dresses, I got them used.  If you have that much money to blow, spend it on something useful.

I love this dress.  The color, the print, everything.

Normally I don’t like large lace patterns like this, but for some reason I adore this dress.  I like the scoopy edge and the way the navy blue offsets the white.

I think the pattern on this one is striking and well placed.

The Name Alice April 26, 2010

Have you ever noticed that everyone named Alice is awesome? Resident Evil, Alice in Wonderland, Twilight*, Devil May Cry……seriously. I have yet to meet an Alice that I don’t like.

On the other hand, I have yet to meet a Brittney that I like. They all seem really stuck up and obsessed with themselves.

So how about you? What names do you like? What ones do you not like? Do you think that when you meet someone, you instantly judge them based on their name?

* Just because I liked the books does not make me a TwiFag.

Amish vs. Mennonite June 18, 2009

So, after working with these Mennonite people and seeing how blatantly ignorant people are about the differences between them and the Amish, I thought I’d do my part to educate the public.  So here it goes.

The biggest difference lies in their beliefs.  The Amish believe that they will not know if they have been saved from Hell until they reach Heaven and God tells them.  The Mennonites, however, believe as most other Christians do, that they have the assurance of Jesus Christ.  The Amish also only read certain parts of the Bible because the other parts contradict their beliefs.

Another big difference between the two groups is their lifestyle.  Mennonite people are allowed to use electricity and drive cars.  Most Amish people aren’t.  There are some more liberal communities that allow them to use diesel engines because they don’t require the electric spark to work.

Mennonite men are allowed to be clean shaven, but Amish men are expected to stop shaving their beard when they get married.  They still shave their mustache because mustaches have long been associated with the military and the Amish are devoutly pacifists.

Amish people are not allowed to play any musical instrument, and they’re only allowed to sing approved hymns.  Mennonites can sing modern worship songs and I think they can play instruments, but they’re not supposed to use them in worship.

Also, Amish people are supposed to have as little contact with the outside world as possible, whereas Mennonites can socialize with them.

So those are some differences between the two religious groups.  It really bothers me when people aren’t interested enough to know the difference.  They see a long dress and a white bonnet and assume they’re Amish.  But what can you do?

Well, the summer has finally arrived.  this means I won’t be posting nearly as often because I have a job and fun things to be doing now!  I got a job really quickly, actually.  I’m working at a Mennonite bulk foods store, which might be the coolest store….ever.  Also, now that my boyfriend is only 10 miles away instead of 120, I plan to see much much more of him.  So I’ll update occasionally but I think I’ll be on the internet much less than usual…because I’m attempting to have a life now.

Cookie Monster May 6, 2009

I was reading something the other day, I forget what or where, but it was about Sesame Street.  Having grown up on the show,  I was greatly distressed to find out that Cookie Monster is no longer a Cookie “Monster.”  Now, cookies are a sometimes snack.  Now how can he be a monster if he doesn’t shove all the cookies in his mouth with crumbs flying everywhere and loud eating noises?  The thing that made me more angry was the reason cited for the change, and that was too many parents were complaining that their kids were getting fat because they refused to eat anything besides cookies.  Personally, I’d call that bad parenting.  If your kid is getting fat because all they eat is cookies, then take away the cookies.  They’ll eat when they’re hungry.  Sometimes I wish people had to take a test before they could have kids, to make sure they would make suitable parents.  On another related note, I also hate it when people say you shouldn’t spank your kids.  There is a huge difference between discipline and abuse.  My parents spanked me as a kid and I grew up with a very healthy respect for them.  I plan to properly discipline my kids when I have them too, and I mean more than time out.  Hahahaha, end rant.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that I live with some strange people.  I was going to doing my laundry, and someone had their laundry in the washer.  So, being the nice person that I am, I put it in the dryer for them.  In the process, I find a pair of my socks, and a t-shirt I thought I had lost.  Socks I can kinda understand, they get left in the dryer.  But my shirt?  I mean come on!  I’m a little creeped out by this.  But, at least it wasn’t my undies, I guess.

I’m ridiculously proud of this:

Honestly, I thought this class was crap. It was just a mixture of my high school gym and health classes. I don’t remember hearing one new idea this whole semester. As of now, I am not seeing many benefits of exercising weekly. I’m not sleeping better, I haven’t lost weight, I don’t an increased level of energy. I do have a faster recovery rate, but it’s not faster by much. I still view exercise as a soul sucking waste of time. Physical activity on the other hand, that’s different. I can’t bring myself to run in a circle or use an elliptical for an hour because the only short term accomplishment I see is my aching muscles and the almost overwhelming urge to puke. However, with physical activity, I’m doing something, such as getting groceries. Walking to the store and then walking back with a five to ten pound bag seems like a much better use of my time. The strength assessments didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. I’m of an average strength at the moment, but that’s because I haven’t been working since I came to Roberts. At home I help out on my uncle’s farm, and I’ve actually noticed a decrease in my muscle tone since coming here. Wrestling cows and tossing hay bales is much better exercise than a treadmill, for one thing it’s a full body work out. If you want a strength and endurance test, send us all to a farm for the day and see who makes it all the way through. I also think it’s ridiculous that if I’m sick, I need a doctor’s note to make the class up. Honestly, would you rather I came to class and puked on you? Would that be enough proof that I’m sick? I remember one class, we had to do the mile run, and I was so sick I had to keep sitting down, which obviously brought my grade down. But since I didn’t go to a doctor, I can’t make it up. The amount of work required didn’t match up with the fact that this is a 1 credit course. So yeah, the class was ridiculous and a complete waste of my life. Not to mention I wasted 100 dollars on the stupid monitor. I didn’t appreciate being told I had to buy a new one when all I had to do was be smart and change the battery. I’m almost positive there are cheaper models out there that work just as well. Also, when wearing that black band around my chest, I felt like I had to puke constantly for some reason. It never happens when I’m exercising without it. I honestly feel like taking this course wasted my time and my money.

“The Most Emo Song Ever”

I just found this, something I wrote in either 10th or 11th grade:

“The Most Emo Song Ever!!!”

Yeah, the overpowering bass draws you in

and the sweaty bodies are creating passion

and would it be the bass or the girl

that is making your lonely heart bleed?

~

Distraction for distraction is traded

what you don’t know is so much

and I’ve got your girlfriend in the back

we’re working hard at being distracted

~

Oh, baby, the walls are vibrating

and there’s no thinking involved

What with her body gyrating

And there’s no love involved

~

Nothing means anything, between these walls

and tomorrow, good god, tomorrow

you don’t even know, no, you never knew

the reason you’re here and why doesn’t matter
